Associated Press - official number of 9-11 dead

The official number of dead in the September 11, 2001 attacks. As has been noted, the numbers were in flux for some time, but the AP has obtained the official list of names from the City of New York, and has the official number of Pentagon and PA deaths as well.

These include the passengers in the planes, but do not include the hijackers.

* Total # killed: 2,973

* Total # killed in WTC attacks: 2,749

* Total # killed in PA: 40

* Total # killed in Pentagon: 184

* Totals do not include 19 hijackers.
