Open Books

From The Oregonian on June 6, 2006:

"What it is: An easy way to learn about school spending in Oregon.

Who created it: A nonprofit group of foundations called the Chalkboard Project, in partnership with several education-related organizations.

Why it exists: Oregonians need to know where their tax money goes, so they can make well-informed decisions about schools."

According to the OpenBook$ site, their data comes directly from the Database Initiative (DBI), which contains the annual audited data that districts provide yearly to the Oregon Department of Education."
