Need an expert after 5 p.m.? Don Ray from IRE-L (the IRE listserv) offers this tip for west-coast reporters:

"When I need an expert in any subject -- such as a specialized
physician or a university professor with a certain expertise -- and it's
after hours here in California, I'll go online and look for an expert in
Hawaii where it's still earlier in the day. Our local gastroenterologist
may have already gone home, but there's surely one in Honolulu that's
still on the clock. Believe it or not, I've made calls to Asia when
closing time has already afflicted the Hawaii time zone."
